A Smarter Retractable Wheel System for Carry-On and Check-In Luggage
One of the most common frustrations with luggage today is compromised space in carry-on sizes and wheel damage in check-in luggage. To address both, OIWAS has co-developed a patented retractable wheel system, scheduled for mass production from Q2 2026.
The system works intuitively:
- When the trolley handle is extended, the wheels deploy for smooth movement.
- When the handle is collapsed, the wheels retract into the luggage base.
This design delivers two major benefits:
- Increased usable space: by retracting the wheels, carry-on luggage can gain approximately 8–10% additional internal capacity within the same external size limits.
- Improved durability: retractable wheels reduce exposure during baggage handling, significantly lowering the risk of wheel damage in check-in luggage.
This technology reflects our focus on practical innovation that improves real travel experiences, not features added for marketing alone.
